Director’s Statement
Since joining the family business, John Pye & Sons in 1991, I have seen it go from strength to strength. From a single site in Nottingham hosting weekly in-room auctions to the large scale online auction business we are today with 20 sites across the UK, and our first mainland Europe site in Zaragoza, Spain.
In terms of growth, in 2023 we entered and were recognised within the Top 500 of websites in the whole of the UK and hold the number one website spot in the auction category (measured by web traffic). We have more than 1,000,000 square feet of secure auction premises, housing over 700 staff and over 800,000 registered bidders.
As Managing Director, my aim is to continuously and sustainably build upon this growth, ensuring that we provide innovative solutions for our clients and further improve the experience for our end users buying through our bespoke auction offering.
It’s easy to measure and track success using the metrics of revenue and number of sites, but for me, more importantly, it is the investment in the people at John Pye. Our continued success is credited to the team we have, with their commitment and hard work pivotal in moving the company forward.
We will continue to focus on increasing our commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) already embedded within our business practice, through environmentally responsible operations at all our sites. This includes recycling, energy saving initiatives and the installation of renewable energy solutions, starting with a wind turbine and solar panels at our Port Talbot site.
I’m proud of our strong history of supporting local and national charities including a wide range of sports teams from grass roots level, right up to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s Men’s’ and Women’s teams. We are also shirt sponsors of Notts County Football Club 2023/2024 season. Our employees generously give up their time to help our charity partners, in addition to our financial donations to help them thrive and grow.
I admire all the achievements we have made so far and look forward to our next chapter and seeing where this will take us in the years to come.
